This is our theme song. It’s probably yours too. It goes like this:
I played video games in a drunken haze,
I was seventeen years young,
Hurt my knuckles punching the machines,
The taste of Scotch rich on my tongue
Not my thing but HELLA AWESOME check these out!
It’s been 21 years since Fox McCloud entered our world(s). The cool and collected hero of the Star Fox franchise has become one of Nintendo’s most recognizable and popular figures. Since it’s been 21 years since we were first introduced to this badass Cornerian mercenary, we’re paying him a tribute the only way we know how:
Fox McCloud (Star Fox Cocktail)
Muddle the sugar and bitters together then add the liquids and stir thoroughly. Serve over ice and garnish with the lime peel.
Nintendo took an important step forward 21 years ago as it released its first game that utilized out-of-this-world (by March 23, 1993 standards) 3D graphics. The Super FX chip was integrated into Star Fox cartridges so that we could pilot an Arwing across the Lylat System, blowing apart Andross’ forces as Fox McCloud with the help of Falco, Peppy, and Slippy. This drink isn’t nearly as groundbreaking as that new technology; it’s a take on the classic Fox River cocktail. In addition to a few tweaks here and there, it’s made with a Scotch whisky in honor of Fox’s surname.
If that’s not enough to get you excited to do some barrel rolls, maybe this rad commercial will help:
Sorry to keep teasing Zelda drinks without the recipes, but we made good progress and had fun with some garnishes this weekend. Look! There’s a cell phone picture of one of the garnishes! It was totally edible. Dustin ate it like 5 seconds after this was taken.
I know earlier we said that we were putting together a series based on Link’s Awakening (and that we’d do it last summer…oops…) but its OoT now. Hopefully that’s okay?
Can you actually think of a drink that looks more right for Valentine’s Day than this? No? Yeah, we didn’t think you could. Maybe you should make a few tonight? We’re pretty sure your date will be into it so long as you remember to mention that it’s an homage to a Nintendo 64 character.
Also, this is kind of a cute song that’s good for today, don’t you think?
P.S. - we are each of your secret admirers. So, please have a happy Valentine’s Day.
The Rainbow Road courtesy of Nintendrunk. We mayyyy have had a few too many this weekend but boy did it feel good to actually finish that course for once.
The people at Entertainment Distilled do a biweekly show where they play a fun and creative drinking game, get messed up, and discuss geek and pop-culture topics (for an adult audience). I’ve been enjoying it a lot and their latest episode (click here for it) included one of our drinks.
AND! If any of the rest of you ever try out Nintendrunk recipes, we’d love to hear from you how they turn out!
